Time synchronization and NTP

Time synchronization is a difficult aspect of running a server in a fully virtualized environment.  In order to keep your VM's clock in sync, we recommend the following settings (FreeBSD VMs are provisioned with these by default):

1) Set kern.hz="100" in /boot/loader.conf.
2) Run ntpd by adding ntpd_enable="YES" to your /etc/rc.conf

You will have to reboot for either of these to take effect after making these changes.

More information about NTP and customizations can be found in the FreeBSD handbook: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en/books/handbook/network-ntp.html
