Add extra IPv4 and IPv6 addresses to your server

You may request extra IP addresses be added to your server and a valid reason will be necessary for approval.

You will need to deposit a minimum of $10 in your account prior to requesting an extra IP. To do so, follow our guide on adding credit to your account.

1. Purchasing the extra IP

Once you have followed the steps to add credit to your account and the credit has posted to your account, follow these steps to add an extra IP:

  1. Log into your customer portal at https://www.rootbsd.net/portal3
  2. Click Servers at the top right
  3. Click the Dashboard button to the far right of the server needing an extra IP
  4. Click the Upgrades tab
  5. Click the Add New IPv4 IP or Add New IPv6 IP button to the far right of Extra IPv4 addresses or Extra IPv6 addresses
  6. In the test box under "To continue, please tell us how you are going to use this extra Address," briefly describe your need for the extra IP
  7. Click the Complete Purchase button to the far right of that text box
  8. Processing may take a few minutes, but you will see the extra IP appear under Extra IPv4 addresses or Extra IPv6 addresses once complete
  9. Make note of the new extra IP, but you may also find it under the Networking tab
  10. If you decide you don't want the extra IP, click the Cancel button to the far right of the IP on the Upgrades tab

Note: Customers with private vlans/routed subnets may need to contact support to have additional address space routed to their server.

2. Adding the extra IP to your server

Important: only follow the steps below if you haven't made any custom changes to your server networking configuration! If you have made custom changes to your networking configuration, you'll need to add the extra IP manually with ifconfig or by editing your server's interfaces, rc.conf, or similar file.

To make the IP usable for your server, follow these steps while logged into your customer portal at https://www.tqhosting.com/portal3:

  1. Click Servers at the top right
  2. Click the Dashboard button to the far right of the server you purchased the new extra IP for
  3. Click the Tools tab
  4. Click the Re-apply Network Settings button under Re-apply Network Settings, then click the Re-apply Network Settings button again
  5. Wait a few minutes for the re-configuration to complete then check your server to ensure the new IP is now available and the virtual interface is up
